Lindsey Brock — Owner/Trainer
Lindsey, AKA “your dogs cool aunt,” has been around dogs her whole life, from family pets, to her stepdad’s working police K9s early in life.
Growing up, her mom always joked that she was like Elly May Clampett because of her love for all of the wild critters. Not only did she try to save all the dogs, she brought home every animal she came across and always had hopes of becoming the American female Steve Irwin. Aside from dogs, Lindsey loves the outdoors and all things wildlife and all things UT. She got her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Wildlife and Fisheries Management. (GO VOLS!) She also was a part of the University of Tennessee Women’s Rugby Football Club for her entire college career, which will forever be a highlight.
She began her dog training career after training her aggressive rescue pit bull, Buckley, with Shannon and totally saving his life from potential Behavioral Euthanasia in a matter of weeks! After that- it was history and her passion was fully sparked. She could save so many dogs! She had the amazing opportunity to work for a big box franchise training company, where she really fell in love with balanced dog training, especially Aggression/ Anxiety Management! In that time she helped hundreds of dogs and families in the Asheville, Nc and Knoxville area live their best lives together and dreamed of being able to give more back and do more for the community. Her and her best friends saw a need that Knoxville had- a dog training group that was completely customizable and community based, willing to help people and dogs and donate time and resources when available.
Buckley’s Training Legacy was created to donate training to rescues and shelters for hard to place dogs! We have the ability to give back thanks to all of our wonderful clients and NSK9 family!

Her family extends to her complete rescue canine pack as well, “Floki”, “Chief”, “Jake”, “Iza”, and “Hank” the Dobermans- the two sweet seniors, “Charlie” the pit bull and “Skyler” the black and tan coonhound, “Bentley” the cattle dog mix -the baby Mini Australian Labradoodle “Toad”- AND her cool leopard geckos, “Legolas” and “Ygritte”.

Chloe Brock — Owner/Trainer
Chloe is the NSK9 team’s operations manager and “type A” personality. Ever since being a young girl her mission was to improve lives around her, either helping with simple tasks or in larger ways. Chloe has always been a hard working individual who believes you should never put limits on ways to improve your life or those around you. Promoting growth in herself and in exchange improving those around her, has been a passion of hers since being a young entrepreneur. Chloe believes every person and dog needs a different approach to improving their quality of life. No two dogs or person should be forced to learn the same way. Finding the best way to learn for both dogs and their handlers is important so they can learn and grow as a team.
While working on her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Chloe successfully worked her way up at an outdoor retail store from cashier to store manager, while staying active in the community by playing rugby, exploring and falling in love with Knoxville - with her dogs’ Skyler, (Black and Tan hound), and Charlie, (Pitbull). After college Chloe and her wife Lindsey decided to continue to help others by becoming foster parents in Knox County. They had the privilege of fostering a large number of children over a three year span. This also lead to the adoption of their son Nolan. During this time, Lindsey also started her career in K9 training by attending aggression lessons with Shannon for their aggressive Pit-bull/Boxer, Buckley they had recently found and adopted. Shortly after the lessons were done Lindsey was offered a position in Asheville, NC with the same K9 training company. Due to Lindsey’s daily commute, Chloe began helping with K9 training alongside Lindsey, as well as running the operations side for her new career. Successfully they built the big box K9 training company from new to the area, to one of the more popular K9 training companies in Asheville.
After commuting from Knoxville to Asheville for 3.5 years, Lindsey was finally offered a position at the Knoxville branch. Chloe also accepted a position at the K9 training company as a regional business director, so that they were able to continue training as a family. After noticing the nonstop assembly line dog training and the lack of true balanced training at the big box dog training company in Knoxville, a group of four friends who were trainers together decided it was time for a change. They believed every dog and owner deserved a chance for change. No matter the situation or severity of the dog, they felt the dog and the owner deserved a chance to become a better version of themselves. Owning a business that promotes positive change in others has been a long standing mission of Chloes. To be able to form and co-own North Star K9 Training, LLC with her three best friends, she feels she is a step closer to her life mission of owning a business that helps others with change.
K9 training was life altering for Chloe’s family and she hopes to be able to pass that along to more families in the Knoxville community. Chloe, her wife and son Nolan have a large pack made up of rescue dogs they have saved over the years. (Seniors: Charlie, Bentley, Jake, and Skyler, Chloe’s Demo Dogs: Iza and Toad, and Lindsey’s Demo Dogs: Floki, Chief, and Hank). Most importantly after working with Chloe and the Brocks you will forever become a part of their family for life!
Shannon Thurston — Owner/Trainer
Shannon: Training by Example through Relationship, Confidence Building, Communication and a Lifetime of Experience!!
Shannon has dedicated her entire life to animal welfare. From a young age, Shannon was bringing home stray cats in a cardboard box and lost dogs tied to the end of her jump rope. Shannon was raised with her family’s German Shepherd, “Bo” and remembers him from her earliest memories. Bo was Shannon’s inspiration to help as a volunteer for the German Shepherd Rescue in the eastern US, parts of the Midwest and even as far as California! Starting out as a volunteer for the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley in the late 90’s, Shannon later began organizing stray animal efforts in Blount County through fostering, rehabbing and rehoming as a one-person unit and paying medical needs out-of-pocket on a social worker’s salary. Through networking and social media, Shannon quickly became well-known in the German Shepherd Rescue Community throughout the United States after saving two death-row dogs, whose stories went viral in 2007. Shannon adopted one of those dogs, Ruth and had her as a companion for 13 wonderful years. For the next four years, Shannon became a Rescue “Point Person” in Knoxville for Death Row Shepherds in GA, TN, NC, SC, AL and FL. Shannon worked with Northern Rescue Organizations such as Brightstar GSD Rescue, Mid-Atlantic GSD Rescue, Big Dogs Big Hearts, All Shepherd Rescue, Echo Dog Rescue and German Shepherd Rescue & Adoptions. Shannon drove to the southern states to pull dogs off Death Row, temporarily foster them and obtain medical care, and prepare them for transport to their new destinations through the Northern Rescues.
In 2010, Shannon found her “Home” as the Tennessee Coordinator for Southeast German Shepherd Rescue where she helped to organize the rescue, rehab and rehoming efforts for German Shepherds in shelters throughout the Southeast. Shannon has driven many thousands of miles to save hundreds of shelter dogs throughout the eastern US. Shannon brings a valuable combination of life skills to dog training through a lifetime of rescue combined with 20+ years of Social Work experience. With her history as a social worker and special needs adoption coordinator for children and teens in state custody for over 20 years, Shannon understands what it takes to help those dealing with traumatic life experiences. Trauma not only affects people, but trauma can be a major source of dog’s behavioral responses to this big, scary world. Shannon understands how to observe and assess a dog and understands key indicators such as body language, expressions, positioning, movement and posturing and how that relates to a dog’s ability to process the environment around them and also how they are going to react to external stimuli. Assessment and Training of the dog is important, but education of the dog’s owner is the key element that many trainers do not understand. Shannon excels in communication with both clients and their dogs, and often serves roles outside of the standard “Dog Trainer” role such as “Cheerleader, Educator, Therapist” as she knows that dogs are unique, therefore no one training style is suitable for every dog. Shannon believes that the true foundation of training a dog is built through effective communication both verbal and non-verbal, building a trusting relationship, establishing confidence outside of the comfort zone, and utilizing a dog’s individual strengths to set goals for their areas of need. After that, learning and reliability with commands come easy!
Shannon is heading into her eighth year of dog training but has always been given the more advanced and challenging training work since her start as a professional dog trainer– including service dog clients, therapy dogs for funeral homes, dental clinic comfort dogs, PTSD and psychiatric support, mobility support, emotional support animals for children in transition to adoption, and more! Her compassionate approach to working with her clients has gained Shannon a serious following in Knoxville, while her ability to think “outside of the box” has also earned her a reputation as the go-to trainer in Knoxville for all dogs and clients that really need a fresh approach. While Shannon is currently “Rescue Retired” in the Dog Community, she still works to give back where she can and to special cases. Shannon continues to serve local rescue efforts as a volunteer and foster mom for Feral Feline Friends. Shannon is an AKC Evaluator for S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine Advanced (CGCA) and Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU). She has completed Pet Tech Training for PetSaver and Pet CPR & First Aid. She has received Certifications with the American Man trailing, Police & Work Dog Association (AMPWDA), AKC Scent Work Judges Education Seminars, Service Dog Specific Training and seminars through local area search and rescue Teams. Shannon has networks throughout Knoxville with numerous Veterinarian Clinics, Doggie Daycares, Groomers and everything dog-related. Shannon was born and raised in Maryville and planted roots in Knoxville in 1998. Shannon loves our Scruffy Little City and will always consider it “home.”
